Description
Under the general guidance of the Advancement Director, the Development Manager is responsible for developing and implementing the annual fundraising plan, managing a portfolio of mid-level and major donors, and meeting ambitious financial goals through development, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. The Development Manager serves on the agency’s leadership team, manages the daily fundraising activities, and campaigns, and oversees development staff.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the development team to set and achieve annual and long-range fundraising goals, measuring progress throughout the year to ensure success.
- Develop and ensure implementation of the Annual Development Plan in consultation with the Advancement Director.
- Build and manage a personal portfolio of mid-level and major donors by leading in cultivation, solicitation, and exceptional stewardship.
- Develop an acquisition strategy and meet donor acquisition and fundraising goals through identifying and converting prospective donors to support ACCESS.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase donor engagement and re-engage lapsed donors.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with individuals, corporations, government agencies, and foundations.
- In collaboration with the Mar/Coms Team, oversee the creation of fundraising materials including print and electronic appeals.
- Collaborate with Advancement Director, Executive Director, and senior management to identify funding needs related to organizational strategic goals and program and operations budgets.
- Work collaboratively with Finance Department to provide timely notice of impending gifts, oversee and ensure gifts are accurately coded, and evaluate and improve development financial procedures and written procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the Grants Team to coordinate agency funding needs and requests to funders, and develop a shared system to track progress, outcomes, and communications.
- Oversee the donor management system, gift processing procedures, and data analysis and reporting.
- Conduct and record outcome of measurable number of face-to-face visits with donor prospects to solicit major and planned gifts and ensure all development activities are accurately recorded.
- Solicit a measurable number of mid-level and major gifts annually while growing a pipeline of new opportunities to support future major gift solicitations.
- Work with advancement team and event committees to plan and execute successful annual fundraising events, and ensures fundraising goals are met through corporate sponsorship, procurement, and individual and corporate donations.
- Manage the overall development budget as well as individual event and fundraising campaign budgets.
- Represent ACCESS to the general public, including but not limited to public speaking, committees, and outreach to various partners and constituencies as appropriate.
- Set team and individual staff goals, provides guidance and tracks performance against development plan.
- Coach and supervise the development team, ensures staff members have the tools needed to accomplish their jobs, and conducts annual performance evaluations.
Position Requirements
- Belief in ACCESS’ mission to provide food, warmth, and shelter.
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of development experience; or equivalent years of experience may be substituted for the educational requireme
- Minimum of three years of successful development experience in major or planned giving fundraising, event planning and donor cultivation.
- Proven experience working on a fundraising team that successfully raised more than $1 million in revenue annually.
- Proven ability to identify major gift prospects and secure major gifts ($10,000+ level).
- 2-3 years of leadership and supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated success with planning and executing large events.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of accomplishment in these areas.
- Excellent computer skills, including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel proficiency.
- This position is required to have a work issued cell phone (in lieu of a cell phone other similar options are available per the agency Cell Phone Election Form).
- A valid Oregon driver’s license with record that is acceptable under ACCESS’ insurance policies.
