The ACCESS Rogue Powerpack Program provides bags full of nutritious, child-friendly food to elementary school children who are receiving free breakfast or lunch at school during the week but may lack adequate food at home over the weekend. There are currently 439 students enrolled in the program.
Toymakers of Ashland are a neighborhood group that joined together in 2017 to create small handmade wooden toys for children in need. When they heard about the Powerpack Program, the toymakers united and sprang into action! The group is made up entirely of volunteers who worked overtime during the Thanksgiving holiday to meticulously build and paint 439 toys so every child in the program could receive one very special Christmas gift.
From little cars to animals on wheels and cabooses too, each toy was thoughtfully decorated, wrapped, and delivered to the ACCESS Food Program. From there, the ACCESS elves would take over and stuff each powerpack full of nutritious foods and of course, a toy. Each pack was delivered to children all over Jackson County both near and far.
It takes a community of people to come together and make a difference and the Toymakers of Ashland surely made a difference for hundreds of children today. Thank you so much to the volunteers who did the woodworking, the building, and the painting. Thereโs nothing like making a child smile! THANK YOU!
