The Eligibility Specialist I – Bilingual position is the first formal contact for clients requesting assistance from ACCESS. This position is responsible for answering phones, screening applicants, and scheduling Energy Assistance intake appointments in addition to providing information and referrals in response to queries. This position is also responsible for providing verbal translation services and translating documents into Spanish for the agency.

Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview, screen, and determine client eligibility for Federal and State Assistance programs for energy assistance and emergency assistance using predetermined
- Work with the Lead Eligibility Specialist to determine the appropriate funding source for assistance. Complete applications with attention to detail and return them to the Lead Eligibility Specialist in a timely
- Answer phones, return calls, file, and schedule appointments in a timely manner, leaving room for walk-ins to assist the clients in emergency
- Ensure that client files are maintained, and data entry is completed in an accurate and timely manner, utilizing internal and grant funding databases, and filing
- Accurately track and report client information and funding expenditures as requested to the Program Supervisor.
- Coordinate with other resources to provide both internal and external referrals for programs/services to ensure the optimum level of service to
- Provide verbal translation service for the agency and translate documents into Spanish for the Department and the agency, when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Belief in ACCESS’ mission to provide food, warmth, and shelter.
- Minimum of 1-year direct client contact and/or customer service
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with customers and co-workers, sustain client and intradepartmental
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and web-based applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to multitask in a variety of areas.
