The “Over the Top” free wig program brought by ACCESS provides wigs and styling services at no cost to participants, helping them regain their sense of self during the incredibly challenging time of battling illnesses such as cancer and alopecia.
Sharon Beall, a participant in the program, shared the emotional moment when the chemotherapy treatments she takes to combat her colon cancer began to take her hair. “With this certain type of chemo that I have, I lost most of it, and it just fell out in handfuls,” Beall said.
Volunteers who keep the program going, including cancer survivors like Su Rolle, work closely with the women to find the perfect wig and even help style it.
The experience aims to provide women not only with a physical transformation but with a sense of confidence and beauty.
The program helps 80 to 100 women every year, providing them with a wig, styling services, and a gift bag with all the essentials to look their best. The bag consists of a scarf or hat, a wig stand, a pick for the wig, sample size soap to wash it and a liner for the wig.
